Event Description 

Join us to celebrate the young writers of Hive South Yorkshire, who will be joined in this event by Sheaf’s Young Poet in Residence Luke Worthy, and a headline set from award-winning poet Yomi ode. 

Hive South Yorkshire is the hub for young writer activity (aged 14 to 30) in the South Yorkshire region. Founded by writer Vicky Morris after many years of working with young writers, Hive helps young people to achieve their writing goals. Hive Poets have won many awards and accolades including the Poetry Business New Poets’ Prize, The Foyle Young Poet Award and BBC Young Writer of the Year. 

Yomi Ṣode is a Nigerian British writer. His debut collection ‘Manorism’, published by Penguin in October 2022 alongside a stage adaptation at the Southbank Centre, is shortlisted for the Rathbones Folio Prize 2023 and the T S Eliot Prize 2022. He was shortlisted for the Brunel International African Poetry Prize 2021, and received the Jerwood Compton Poetry Fellowship in 2019. Yomi’s acclaimed one-man show COAT toured nationally to sold-out audiences, including at the Brighton Festival, Roundhouse Camden and the Battersea Arts Centre. In 2020 his libretto Remnants, written in collaboration with award-winning composer James B. Wilson and performed with Chineke! Orchestra premiered on BBC Radio 3.

In 2021, his play and breathe… premiered at the Almeida Theatre to rave reviews. Yomi is a Complete Works alumnus and a member of Malika’s Poetry Kitchen. He is the founder of BoxedIn, First Five, The Daddy Diaries, and the mentorship programme 12 in 12.

Luke Worthy is a queer poet and fiction writer from Sheffield now based in Amsterdam. His work has been published in journals and anthologies including Poetry Wales, Youth Word Up, Surfing the Twilight (2019) and Dear Life (2022). He was shortlisted for the New Poet’s Prize 2021 and has been commissioned to write a piece of children’s literature for Leeds 2023. Luke is an alumnus of Sheffield Young Writers and a member of Hive Poetry.
