We’re delighted to welcome Vahni Capildeo and Imtiaz Dharker to Sheffield for this reading. Vahni Capildeo’s poems are quick to question the world around us, whether that is the boundaries we draw, or the perspective we write from. Imtiaz Dharker’s most recent collection, Luck Is The Hook, explores chance and the ways in which it shapes our lives.
Trinidadian-British poet Vahni Capildeo earned a PhD at Oxford University, where they were a Rhodes Scholar studying translation theory and Old Norse. They completed a research fellowship at Girton College, Cambridge University. Their collection Measures of Expatriation won the 2016 Forward Prize and 2018’s Venus as a Bear was a Poetry Book Society choice.
Imtiaz Dharker is a poet and artist, and was awarded the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry, 2014. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and has been Poet-in-Residence at Cambridge University Library. Her six collections include Over the Moon and the latest, Luck is the Hook, and her poems have been broadcast widely on BBC Radio 3 and 4 as well as the BBC World Service.
