Wild Whispers started with one poem and led to 12 versions, 12 languages and 12 films. Chaucer Cameron and Helen Dewbery document a project which explores the concept of adaptation and collaboration through poetry film, by sending a poetry film across the world, which was then re-created into a new poetry film and passed on. The films, created in different languages with English subtitles, were all ‘whispered’ from the previous one. This event will show all the poetry films that have been produced.
The poem travelled from the U.K. to India, Australia, Taiwan, France, South Africa, Belgium, Sweden and the U.S.A., creating poetry films in English, Malayalam, Chinese, French, Afrikaans, Dutch, American Sign Language, Navajo, Spanish, and Welsh.
Elephant’s Footprint is the collaborative duo of Chaucer Cameron and Helen Dewbery. It was originally conceived to enable their ground-breaking collaborative work, Nothing in the Garden, a 30-minute poetry film collection. Since then Elephant’s Footprint has been involved in a number of projects, including the online poetry film magazine Poetry Film Live, mentoring and tutoring through their annual Poetry Film Collective scheme, the global poetry film translation project Wild Whispers, as well as curating live poetry film events for organisations and festivals. With support from Arts Council England, Elephant’s Footprint currently works in partnership with Nine Arches Press producing hybrid poetry films with their authors.
The Void Lecture Theatre is situated in the Sheffield Hallam Owen Building on Howard Street. There are lifts, accessible toilets and wheelchair access available. Detailed information can be found here: https://www.accessable.co.uk/venues/owen-building
